Is your Business READY for the Great British Switch off?

What is the PSTN and ISDN Switch Off?

If you are not using the internet for your phone calls then the likelihood your business is making phone calls over the UK’s traditional analogue PSTN or ISDN phone networks, Analogue signals along copper lines have been the backbone of how businesses have communicated over the phone for over a 100 years.

For the 20th Century PSTN analogue and ISDN lines served business well however the world and technology has moved on and these historical lines do not support this new technology.

At the beginning of 2027 the PSTN network will be switched off and withdrawn from service. To prepare for that new sales of PSTN based products will be stopped in 2023. This is called Stop Sell and has already seen telephone exchanges announced to no longer sell PSTN and ISDN products. As a business not only will you not be able to order any products running on analogue or ISDN but if you already have this technology and want to expand it you will not be able to.

What can your business do now?

Time is still on your side to prepare for the Full-fibre future

Review your services to see what equipment your business uses that relies on PSTN or ISDN lines, ie broadband, phones, card machines, cctv, or alarms.

Don’t get left behind – whilst many businesses are showing signs of being being prepared for the switch off others are less prepared.

Choose a telecom supplier wisely who can not only help with the above, but will provide a free site survey and make recommendations for the next steps.

Find out when your existing phone and broadband contract is due to renew or end. This will help with planning and giving you a clear deadline of when to make the move to digital.

For your phone system, create a wish list of what you wish your existing system does that it doesn’t do now

Contact our Team if you need to talk about your products or how to keep your services. We here to advise, guide and help where we can. Be prepared for the Great British Switch Off!
